6-th Symposium on Vacuum based Science and Technology

Clausius Session

The ceremonial Clausius Session inaugurated the 6th Symposium on Vacuum based Science and Technology organized by The Institute of Mechatronics, Nanotechnology and Vacuum Technique of Koszalin University of Technology. During the Clausius Session the Diplomas of the Honorary Membership of the Clausius Tower Society were presented.


20th September 2011 The Institute of Mechatronics, Nanotechnology and Vacuum Technique of Koszalin University of Technology organized the 6th Symposium on Vacuum based Science and Technology - the international science conference under the patronage of Polish and German Vacuum Society. Symposium was honored by the ceremonial scientific session devoted to Rudolf J.E. Clausius.

The session was opened with presentation of the Diplomas of the Honorary Membership of the Clausius Tower Society. The presentation was performed by the Rector of Koszalin University of Technology – the Chairman of The Clausius Tower Society Board – Prof. Tomasz Krzyżyński. The Honorary Membership was conferred on the following 10 persons:

  1. Prof. Eri Yagi, Kyoto University
    Kyoto University professor, science historian, eminent expert on the scientific output of R. Clausius;
  2. Prof. Dieter Hoffmann, Max Planck Institute, Berlin
    science historian, physicist, known from studies of scientific achievements of R. Clausius;
  3. Prof. Marek Danielewski, AGH, Kraków
    AGH professor, author of works on theoretical thermodynamics and lectures on R. Clausius`s dissemination in thermodynamics
  4. Prof. Hans Oechsner, IFOS, Kaiserslautern
    physicist, retired professor of Kaiserslautern University, founder and longtime Chair of Physics Department, director of Institute of Surface and Thin Film Analysis (IFOS) merited former president of DVG (Deutsche Vakuum Geselschaft);
  5. Prof. Frank Richter, TU Chemnitz
    physicist, University professor in Chemnitz, past president of DVG, longtime associate and editor of scientific journal Vacuum, active supporter of the organization and its idea, series of conferences on Symposium on Vacuum based Science and Technology under the patronage of Polish and German Vacuum Society;
  6. Dr. Stefan L. Wolff, Forschungsinstitut des Deutschen Museums, München
    science historian, associate of Deutches Museum in Munich, expert on R. Clausius achievement;
  7. Prof. Jacek Szuber, Technical University of Śląsk, Gliwice
    Professor of Department of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science, Silesian University of Technology, the chairman of Polish Vacuum Society;
  8. Prof. Michael Kopnarski, IFOS, Kaiserslautern
    chairman of Institute of Surface and Thin Film Analysis (IFOS), president DVG (Deutsche Vakuum Geselschaft);
  9. Mirosław Mikietyński, Koszalin
    former president of Koszalin, merited in development of Koszalin, active supporter of upgrowth and realization of mission of Koszalin University of Technology;
  10. Prof. Leszek A. Dobrzański, Technical University of Śląsk
    president of Institute of Engineering and Biomedical Materials of Technical University of Śląsk, Doctor Honoris Causa University of Ruse (Bulgaria in 1999) and University of Chmielnick (Ukraine in 2007);

The film ´Art of physics` presenting the character of R. E. Clausius and his contribution into world on science was shown. (written and directed by L. Orlewicz).

The celebration was honored by lectures about life and scientific achievements of Rudolf J.E. Clausius, given by scholars, science historians, physicists like Dr. Stefan Wolff from Forschungsinstitut des Deutschen Museums in Munich, prof. Markek Danielewski of AGH University of Science and Technology in Cracow, prof. Hans Oechsner, IFOS, Kaiserslautern.
